The caller then insisted they must have mixed up their details, yet they remained on the line in eerie silence until I eventually hung up. Quite odd, considering I'm situated in the North East!

Had this bloke from India ring me up around lunchtime on Saturday, claiming he was from Microsoft. I saw straight through it and told him to find a proper job, which didn’t go down well. He actually rang back just to give us a mouthful, then tried twice more when no one was in. Felt pretty good to wind him up like that!

01618201694 rang me, but I missed the call as I wasn’t quick enough to reach the phone. Even if I'd been quicker, I probably wouldn’t have answered since the number was unfamiliar. Then, they started leaving a voicemail, but no words came through. Suddenly, this awful noise burst out on my answering machine - like a mix between a car alarm and an air raid siren - and it just kept going nonstop. Eventually, I had to pull the plug on the phone to get the noise to stop.

Find the section for ‘reporting phishing attempts’ and carefully read all the instructions before submitting the scam info. Be sure to add any links or URLs you’ve seen. You don’t need to sign up or give any personal details unless you’ve actually lost cash because of the scam. The only way the cops can track these crooks is if we all report every single dodgy call or message we get.
