When I asked questions about the charges though, they just hung up on me. This isn't the first time - they've rang me three times now, each time saying there’s an issue with the meters and asking for payment info. Strange how they had the exact meter numbers and plenty of details about the business. Feels dodgy to me.

When I asked if they were a government agency or a private firm, the guy said a limited company. I checked on Companies House straight away and couldn’t find anything matching that name. This morning on 12/02/2025, I got a call from a woman with an Asian accent who said she worked for Total Energy, the company we actually use. She wanted us to check our latest bill and verify details, especially the MPAN number. But surely if she was really from Total, they’d already have all that info anyway! Got a call from 0161 8189 790, said they were from EDF but it sounded dodgy. They mentioned something about my postcode being incorrect. I told them I'd fix it on the website, and as soon as I said that, the bloke just hung up. After that, my phone kept ringing over and over, like 5 or 6 times straight - really annoying! Definitely feels like a scam to me.

This lot saying they’re from EDF were actually phoning from some place in India. I ended up getting put through to a manager to take it higher. Totally dodgy stuff, all about confirming your MPAN because “your account’s got mixed up with someone else’s so your upcoming bill will be wrong.” I checked our meter reads against the invoices and the billing period was still going, not due yet. I kept them on the line for about 11 minutes, giving nothing away and firing loads of questions back. In the end, the woman swore at me and hung up! Nailed it!

Someone saying they were with Scottish Power phoned me, saying there’d been a data hack and they needed to check my account info. They asked me to get my bill and read out the meter number. We've been getting frequent calls where the person on the other end, usually a woman who sounds Asian, asks us to verify our electricity provider’s number, contract end date and last bill amount. They’re super insistent that the call is legit, but after double-checking with the company, it's clear this is a scam. Best thing is to just hang up and not engage. They probably want to trick you into paying a fake bill or convincing you to switch your provider to them. Seriously, be careful and never give out any details to these callers.

These people ring me up at least ten times every day claiming to be from British Gas, asking for serial numbers. They even threatened to cut off our gas and electric if I didn’t provide the info. They kept insisting on speaking to the manager, not realising I’m the one in charge. We run a care home and this constant hassle is really causing stress.
