I’m from India and I’d say the best thing is just hang up straight away - don’t give them any info at all!!!

Got a call much like this earlier today. The bloke on the line had a really thick Indian or Pakistani accent. He said his name was Adam Smith and gave some kind of ID code like DH0672, saying he was from BT. He claimed there was a tech issue with my router, but mine isn’t even from BT. Seemed fishy to me.

I got pretty much the same call as others mentioned. The guy said he was Thomas Kent, which sounds so English, but his strong Pakistani accent gave him away straight away! He claimed he was calling from BT and warned me my internet would be disconnected because someone had hacked the line. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it!

Got a call from someone speaking with an Indian accent claiming to be from BT Openreach. They told me my router needed fixing, but since I don’t use a BT router, I knew straight away it was dodgy. When I asked for his name, he said it was 'Peter Wilson'. He gave me a phone number of 0161 8189 421, saying it was from BT Telecom. He said he’d ring me back, but after looking up the number I didn’t bother waiting for that!

Some bloke called Thomas Kent, sounded like he had an Indian accent, said he was with BT Openreach. He told me that my internet had been accessed by "unauthorised users" recently and that there were loads of errors reported. He gave me this number, 0161 8189421, but the call was actually coming from 01847 006231. Feels dodgy, like a scam to me.

I got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent, saying he was John Walson. He rang me from a London 020 number, telling me someone was leeching off my internet outside. He said he wanted to help fix it. I asked him for a number so I could ring him back, and he gave me 01618189421.

I just got a call from a guy who had an Indian accent claiming that my internet was being hacked and used outside on the street. He said his name was David Smith and that he worked for BT, calling from their technical office in Newgate Street, London. He even gave a number, 0161 818 9421, but that’s not a London or BT number at all. Definitely sounded dodgy to me.

Got a call from someone in Manchester pretending to be from BT Openreach or something like that. The number they showed up as on my caller ID was 02086025996, but I reckon they were faking it. Classic scam attempt.

Got a call from 016118189421 earlier, and it was some automated bloke warning me about hacking on my IP. Said I’d be disconnected within a day unless I picked one of two options. Honestly, don’t press any buttons or anything, just end the call. It’s a total scam trying to grab your info and sneak into your device. I’ve blocked the number already - you might wanna do that too if you can.

I received a rather dodgy recorded call on my home phone earlier. It claimed that my internet security had been breached, and they threatened to cut off my service within a day. They wanted me to press 1 for BT or 2 for other providers. Just a heads up, it's a complete scam - steer clear of it! I’ve heard they aim to trick you into granting remote access to your computer, which would spell disaster. Stay vigilant, everyone!

Had a call come through today. Didn't pick up, but there was a message left on my answering machine. They were purporting to be from BT. It sounded a lot like what others have mentioned before. The accent was a bit dodgy and I couldn't quite pinpoint it; definitely didn’t sound British.

Got a voicemail on my home phone from 01618189421 saying they were from BT. The message warned about some dodgy activity linked to my IP and said my internet would be disconnected within 24 hours unless I called back - option 1 for BT, option 2 for other providers. Thing is, I’m not a BT customer at all, so it’s obvious this is a scam. If you hear that, don’t press any buttons, just end the call straight away.

They asked to press 1 for BT or 2 if with another provider. Got a bit worried and searched the number here - glad to see loads of others have reported it as a SCAM. These people are just awful. Really appreciate this website for the heads up. I’ve blocked the number now.

I just got a rather distressing automated call, stating that my number was set to be terminated within a day due to some purported hacking activities linked to my IP. Out of curiosity, I pressed 1 to hear more. I ended up chatting with someone calling himself 'Max Wilson', though he had quite a noticeable Asian accent. He asserted that he was affiliated with the BT Technical Department. When I inquired about the specific branch he represented, he struggled to provide any clarity, only mentioning it was situated in South Asia. I told him I’d reach out again, but, of course, that never happened. I've made sure to report this to BT through their scam alert page at: https://www.bt.com/help/home/scams/

Hope this information is helpful!

The message was a bloke speaking with a UK accent saying, "Your internet has been compromised and service will be cut off in 60 minutes. Press 1 if you’re with BT, 2 if not." I’ve just had an annoying call from the number listed above, purporting to be from B.T., but I’ve done my homework, and it's definitely not them! I thought that since April 2017, these types of nuisance calls were supposedly outlawed. For anyone else who finds themselves in a similar predicament, I recommend you ring 1572 and hit option 1 to cut off these telemarketers. After that, it wouldn’t hurt to get in touch with Ofcom to lodge a complaint.

Got a robotic call warning me that my internet would be disconnected within a day. After that, some bloke with an Indian accent rang me claiming he was from BT and that my connection had been compromised by hackers. scam alert - my dad picked up the phone when I wasn’t around and the person claimed they were from the BT head office. They told him there was a hack in our neighbourhood and asked for personal info, saying if we didn’t log in, our internet would be disconnected. Dad said he’d have me return the call.
