This morning, at a rather ungodly hour of 7:30, my phone rang but I chose not to pick it up. Shortly after, I was greeted with a voicemail that was quite unsettling. The caller identified herself as Claire Williams from HM Revenue & Customs and issued an alarming ultimatum: either I or my solicitor should get in touch, or I could expect to be facing some serious legal repercussions. It all ended on a strangely cheerful note with her wishing me a nice day. Quite bizarre, isn’t it?

just used the 141 code then rang this number back. sounded like some shady bloke, maybe overseas but pretending to be local with an 0161 code. i asked him straight up why he’s calling folks trying to scam cash from them, and all i got was a creepy laugh. is there any way to track down these idiots? can the police or someone find out who actually owns these numbers? Got a call from someone claiming to be Claire Williams at HMRC saying I needed a solicitor urgently and to ring her straight away. I tried calling back but the line just rang and then went dead. Really glad I found this site before I phoned again. I've blocked the number now. How do these nasty people manage to sleep at night? I’m puzzled how they even got my number since I never share it - I always give out my landline instead, which is never even switched on! I’m convinced EE must be selling numbers, so I hold them responsible.

I got a voicemail from the number 01618187840 claiming to be from HMRC. It was obvious to me it was a scam since HMRC doesn't call out like that. When I rang back, the call went through to a place in Asia despite the Manchester area code. I told the person on the other end they weren’t with HMRC after I looked them up online and told them their call was borderline harassment.

She warned that if I didn’t respond or they didn’t hear from my solicitor, I should brace myself for the full force of the law. It was quite peculiar that she signed off with, “Have a lovely day.”
