Give it a miss - there’s absolutely no one on the other end. It’s just a ploy to check if the line's operational so that these dim-witted telemarketers can have a go at conning you from some far-off call centre. Can you believe it? Your mobile provider is likely complicit in this too, peddling your details and number to these fraudsters. They ought to face hefty penalties for that!

This number 0161.8594521 called me two times today claiming my name is on a HMRC list for tax evasion and that there's a warrant for my arrest. I tried calling them back but the number doesn't even work. It really shook me up and made me panic since I'm quite old and have never had any trouble with the law or taxes.
