10 yearsSome bloke with a thick Indian accent, going by the name Austin Mellor, phoned my ageing parents pretending to be from Microsoft. He kept pushing my mum to switch on her laptop, threatening they'd "block" it if she didn’t. Thankfully, she stood her ground and told him she’d chat to one of us kids before ringing back. They handed over this number, which I tried to ring just to give them a proper telling-off, but it wouldn’t even connect. Quite frustrating!Austin MellorMicrosoft10 yearsThis bloke said his name was David Wright, and honestly, he was really nasty to me. I asked him for his address and phone number so I could verify who he was, and he gave me that 0161 number you see above. He kept pushing me, getting all aggressive, telling me to turn on my PC. I told him I already had two laptops up and running, both for work. Then he started threatening to block them, so I just told him to go ahead. That’s when I called him out as a scammer and ended the call.David Wright10 yearsI got a call from someone named Sarah Jones with a strong Indian accent, from 012034242603. She claimed my computer was under attack and asked me to verify my computer’s ID number. I tried looking up the number but couldn’t find anything official. I told her straight up I didn’t believe she was from Microsoft. Then she gave me another number starting with 0161 and said I could call it to confirm her identity. I said that number seemed dodgy too. Soon after, a guy called Brian, again with an Indian accent, took over and insisted they were from Microsoft. He wanted me to check my PC, but I called him out as a scammer and ended the call.Sarah JonesMicrosoftBrian10 yearsJust got a call from someone named Brian using the number 0161 8182 363, claiming to be from Microsoft. He said my computer was infected with viruses and wanted me to log in so he could “fix” it. I reckon he was trying to take control of my laptop or maybe put some nasty software on it. I told him I’d log on, then made a quick dash for a coffee, leaving the phone unattended. After about 15 minutes, he gave up and hung up. Total scammer - don’t fall for it! If you want to throw them off, ask for your laptop’s IP address first. That usually stops them in their tracks.BrianMicrosoft10 yearsSome guy named Alan rang me, sounded like he had an Indian accent. He said he was from Microsoft about my computer. I asked for his number and he actually gave it to me. Then I told him I’m on the TPS list, though it probably won’t stop them. He just hung up after that. I’m sure there’ll be plenty more calls like this.AlanMicrosoftTelephone Preference Service10 yearsGot a call from someone claiming they were with Microsoft, saying my computer was infected with malware.Microsoft10 yearsGot a call from someone claiming to be Microsoft and wanted me to give them remote access to my PC.
