I received a pre-recorded message claiming to be from HMRC, stating I had an outstanding income tax bill. They urged me to return the call. Intrigued, I dialled in using a different phone, but the chap on the other end asked me for the number I was calling from. I questioned why they needed that information, and he simply said to call back with the number for verification before abruptly ending the call. It all reeked of a scam! If it were genuinely HMRC, they wouldn’t hang up on someone and would provide a valid reason for needing my number.
