I received an automated call that I couldn’t quite decipher at first. The synthetic voice claimed that two transactions had been processed on my card-£400 and £1300-which they deemed questionable. Then, it offered me the options of pressing 1 to authorise the payments, 2 to cancel them, or 0 to replay the message. Curious, I pressed 0 to catch the start of the message that I'd missed, and an American voice told me to hold on for an operator. At that point, I decided it was best to hang up. Afterwards, I double-checked my bank statements, and thankfully, there were no unexpected charges. I managed to retrieve the number by calling 1471.
