Got a call from this number claiming I had shared my details with a doorstep visitor and that I wanted an energy usage check. They kept pushing me until I told them I don’t actually own the house, then they just ended the call. Sounds pretty suspicious to me since I never hand out my info, especially not to random callers out of the blue.

So on the 19th of November 2025, I got a call from an unfamiliar number. Normally I just ignore calls I don’t know, and luckily I stuck to that because it definitely sounded like a scam. I usually only bother to reply if they drop a voicemail or send a message.

So this caller, who sounded Asian, had pretty poor English, and funny enough, he called himself Eric. He rambled on about how much energy I was supposedly using, but couldn't even guess which energy company I’m with. Honestly, I find these calls hilarious. Sure, they can be a real threat to folks who aren’t savvy, but I just mess with them for a laugh. Oh, and in case you’re curious, I told him my name was Adolf Hitler!

While my wife was home alone, someone was ringing our doorbell and at the exact same time, her phone was getting a call from 01617689673. It just didn’t sit right with me, seemed fishy like a scam or something dodgy going on. Definitely advise against opening your door or picking up if this number rings you.

When they claim to be from work and pensions, check by asking for your National Insurance number or your address. If they can’t provide those details, it’s probably a scam.

I'd say just don't answer when they ring. They come across really pushy and won't stop pestering you to buy their stuff. Honestly, they don’t take no for an answer and keep ringing non-stop. I've had loads of calls like this from what seems like the same lot, but with slightly different numbers each time. Feels a bit dodgy, like it might be some kind of scam. Same group of people for sure...

Got a recorded message claiming to be from the DWP saying my National Insurance number was blocked and telling me to talk to an adviser. It’s a total scam and you should definitely report it to Action Fraud. Don’t give these #### crooks any of your info.
