Even though I have this number blocked on my phone, it still manages to ring about 4 or 5 times during the week. I’ve read other comments here saying the same thing. The callers claim to be from Harringtons Advisory, telling you they’re giving you a tax refund on a PPI claim. Don’t be fooled, that’s rubbish - that company actually went bust after HMRC caught them for dodging tax. Honestly, the police really need to crack down on these scam calls.

I’ve gotten calls from this number multiple times, but I have no clue who’s ringing. Didn’t pick up any of the times.

This number 01617682598 phoned me two times over two days, but there was complete silence both times. I reckon it’s a scam call and I’m not picking up if they call again. I noticed from other comments that it might have something to do with Harrington, a company I dealt with years ago. They went out of business after some court case (said something in the Bolton News). Looks like these scammers might have got hold of some of my info.

Had a call from someone called Bobby, who said he was ringing from Harrington Advisory - a firm I’ve dealt with before. He mentioned PPI compensation from way back in 2008, which he seemed to know all about, and told me there was another payment waiting. At first, I answered a couple of questions, but then got a bit wary. When he asked for my National Insurance number, I said I’d need to check the paperwork I’d stored away in the loft and that I’d ring him back later. He left me his number as 01617682598.

Got a call about some kind of payment I supposedly got from PPI, then they tried to say HMRC wants more tax from me and I need to pay them so they can sort it with HMRC. Felt dodgy straight away, so I ended the call. Have since blocked the number to be safe.

I got a call claiming it was about PPI, brought up HSBC, and a firm called Harrisons who apparently handled my PPI claims. They said solicitors Goldman Knightley would contact me soon. The person on the phone had my previous address and birthday, but kept asking for my National Insurance number, which I foolishly gave them. After hanging up, I started thinking it might've been a scam. Do you reckon I should report this to the police or something?

On Monday the 10th of August, I got a call from this number, with a woman claiming I was owed a tax refund from HMRC linked to a PPI payment. She mentioned she was ringing from Harrington Advisory, but I’m pretty sure that company went bust some time ago. I’ve sent the details over to HMRC’s team that deals with phishing.

Got a call from someone saying they were from a company handling claims for TSX, they name dropped Harringtons who I dealt with before. The security questions they asked were about my postcode and birthday. Weirdly, they said they had my partner’s email but not mine. Then they wanted my National Insurance number, which seemed off. They promised to send me an email but never did.

My phone went off three times in a row and I finally picked up. It was a woman with an American accent saying something about the police and jail threats. I was a bit suspicious at first but then I saw the comments about Harringtons and remembered a mate who used them to get his PPPI sorted. Can’t believe they supposedly didn't pay their taxes though! Quite the story.

They say they're a firm helping you reclaim tax from PPI, but honestly, if there was any tax owed, HMRC would reach out to me themselves. The phone number they use keeps switching all the time. Sounds linked to Harringtons, who, funnily enough, were told by a court to stop trading because they owe HMRC tax. Avoid this lot, they're total scammers.
