A Filipino woman said she was from Microsoft Tech and asked if I owned a PC, to which I replied yes. Then she said they had received a report that my PC had been compromised by hackers who had infected it with spyware and a virus. Got a call claiming to be from Microsoft's tech support, supposedly out of Reading. The lady who spoke called herself Tia Mahoney, though her accent sounded Filipino or something similar. They insisted my Microsoft account was hacked and warned they'd lock me out everywhere if I didn’t cooperate. Then they wanted to transfer me to another ‘team member’ with a dodgy foreign phone number. Honestly, they were really abrupt and forceful. I've blocked the numbers now. Watch out for these scammers!

Calls pretending to be from Microsoft have been around since the early internet days, I figured scammers gave up on them ages ago, like 15 years back, since it stopped working for them. If you get a dodgy call, text 7726 to report it - you’ll get a reply with steps to follow. Doing this might help get that number blocked and even looked into by the cops. I got a call from someone saying they were with BT, saying there’d been issues flagged by local engineers about my broadband. When I asked where they were calling from, he gave me an address in central London. While he was talking, I quickly dialled the number on my caller ID from a different phone - it was a Manchester number - and got this automated message saying the number doesn’t exist. I told the bloke what happened and said I reckoned it was a scam. He hung up straight away. Of course he did. I’ve now added that number to my 1572 blocked list.
