Best thing to do is tell them to buzz off, hang up straight away and block the caller. They’re really dodgy and could easily drain your bank account if you’re not careful.

HMRC really ought to take action against this, since these calls are about them. If it was your business, you’d be shutting down that number straight away - they’re out there bad mouthing and threatening people while pretending to be from HMRC. This kind of pestering should not be tolerated. Imagine if the number was sharing info on MPs’ pay or other personal stuff - no doubt it’d be blocked quick smart. Got a voicemail from a Manchester number, 0161 667 5278, and it was some robotic voice. When I rang back, a guy with an Indian or South East Asian accent answered, claiming there was an HMRC issue with me. I told him I didn’t have a solicitor, then he just cut the call. Called back a few more times, but every time I asked who they were and why all these HMRC calls came from India, they’d hang up on me - like 4 times! In the end, they told me to stop calling them. Quite the laugh!
