Honestly, I don’t think these places really want your actual number. They have some kind of auto dialler that just blasts through every possible digit combo until it hears a ring. Once it knows the number works, it saves it and keeps calling till eventually someone picks up. If you say something, it links you straight through to a call centre agent. But if you pick up and stay quiet, the machine assumes it’s voicemail and just ends the call. Pretty sneaky if you ask me.
