I received a call from a number claiming to be from Payroll, supposedly verifying my bank information for Acorn Recruitment, with whom I've just signed up for a new job. I felt uneasy about the whole thing, especially since the woman had a noticeable accent and was pressing me to verify my national insurance number and banking details over the phone. I chose not to give any information and told her I'd verify it with Acorn directly before hanging up. This raised quite a few red flags for me; it seems like a cunning scheme to fish for sensitive information that could potentially be used in a scam against me or others.
