On 23rd August 2022, I received a call on an old number that I don’t use anymore. The caller claimed to be from the Technical Department of Virgin Media, supposedly regarding my internet issues. It’s clear that this was a scam attempt.

Got a call from a bloke who said he only needed a quick 30 seconds and insisted he wasn’t selling anything. I kept asking what the call was about but he kept dodging the question, and honestly, when he finally said something I couldn’t really make it out. He had my full name and address, but kept pushing for my age which I didn’t give him. Ended the call once I still had no clue who he was or where he was calling from. Bit worried he had all my details already.

This company has called me three times already. When I picked up the third call, I asked to talk to the manager, and they just ended the call. So the next time they called, I decided to play along and gave them fake details. They wanted confirmation of my address, phone number, age, number of kids and who handles my life insurance. After I gave them all wrong info, they said thanks and hung up. Seriously suspicious. I'd say mess about with them to waste their time and cash, and maybe stop them hassling someone more vulnerable.

(He stated my full name, and I confirmed it). He claimed to be from a firm called UK Choice, which I've never encountered before. He assured me, “Don’t worry, I won’t try to sell you anything.” Then he mentioned my actual address, at which point I attempted to ask him some questions. Sadly, the call was cut off before I could get any answers. Strangely, just eight minutes later, at 4:38 PM, I received another call from the same number. I picked up the phone, but once again, the line went dead immediately. I’m feeling quite anxious about this situation, especially since he had my real name and address. I’m left wondering what this individual or group might want. Does anyone have any advice on what steps I should take next?
