I got a robocall, then got passed through to a bloke with an Indian accent who said I had some kind of PPI payout waiting, something like £18,000. I decided to mess with him a bit and asked if he actually knew who I was, but he just avoided answering. So I tried to freak him out by saying I was in charge of cracking down on fake claim calls and that I was tracking his location while we talked. I had a look here and saw the number was from Manchester, so I got my friend to call out from the background, “He’s over in Manchester, boss!” He ended the call dead quick after that.

Can someone please ring this number back and mess around with them for a change? I’m pretty sure these calls are from telemarketers or debt collectors, so don’t pick up! They just cold call hoping a tiny fraction of people will fall for their scams. It’d be brilliant if someone gave them a taste of their own medicine, maybe pretend to be someone with an Indian accent or just troll them like they do to us! This is what's known as a "One Ring Scam." They prey on your curiosity by letting your phone ring just once. If you ring back, you end up making a genuine call that can rack up big charges from a premium-rate number. There are loads of numbers out there pulling this trick now. Best thing to do is save the number in your phone under something like "Scam Alert," so when it shows up, you know not to pick up or call back. Just ignore it completely.
