Got a message from an automated voice claiming to be from HMRC, saying I had to ring back straight away or else I'd get some harsh fines. Pretty sure it's one of those dodgy scams.

It told me to ring back on the same number and said if I or my lawyer didn’t respond, there’d be serious repercussions. Honestly, it felt a bit dodgy for HMRC to sound so threatening and use an automated message like that.

I called the number back and the person on the line said their name and gave a badge number, claiming to be from HMRC. They then asked me for my name, postcode, and house number, which I told them. Next, they wanted my National Insurance number but when I asked them to verify who they really were by telling me something about me, they said they couldn’t do that as it’s not how HMRC operates. They told me to check their badge number with the police instead (had to laugh). I said I would and ended the call. Definitely a scam.

This number just rang my mum, and she’s really shaken up now because the person on the other end was saying they’d take her house away. Honestly, I’m so upset and appalled by whoever called.

I didn't pick up when they rang, but I noticed a voicemail later. It was one of those robotic sounding messages claiming to be a detective working for HMRC. They kept going on about a "time sensitive" matter and warned that if I didn't ring them back on the number they gave, I'd have to "deal with the full force of the law." Sounds like a classic scam to me.

When I called back, they wanted my reference number, which I never got, and then started asking for personal info. That’s when I knew something was off. The voices sounded like they weren’t from the UK either. Seriously, don’t ring this number!
