Got a call about some savings thing... mum couldn't really tell me what it was exactly, but she said it was about something she definitely doesn’t have. When she told them she didn’t have whatever they asked for, they just kept asking the same questions over again. Eventually, after mum told them again, they just abruptly ended the call.

I saw a post here a couple of days back that broke down step-by-step how to deal with these scam calls. The problem is most people in the UK just don’t bother, and that’s why the scammers keep on getting through. The post had loads of info about reporting various scams but for phone calls specifically, you just need to text the info to 7726 and then follow their reply to confirm the report. It’s dead easy if you take the time.

Spoiler: it’s not just about blocking the numbers. The government teamed up with the police's Action Fraud, the National Cyber Security Centre, OfCom, and the phone companies to build a reporting system. When you report these calls, it helps the police gather info and crack down on all kinds of scams. Have a look back about a page or so, that post lays it out right. Honestly, the best way to fight scams is by reporting them properly.

It looked kinda legit coz the message actually arrived on my mobile, but I reckon if I handed over the PIN they asked for, they could’ve totally taken control of my account. Definitely a scam in disguise.

I reckon it’s the same quiet caller messing about. Using Manchester as their home base is cheeky. Definitely sounds like a scam to me. Stay clear of this one!!

I got a call from someone with a foreign accent claiming my internet was sluggish, but I haven’t noticed any issues. Made me think the caller wasn’t legit at all.

There was a bit of a pause before they answered which raised my suspicions. The person on the line, speaking with an accent, said they were from BT Openreach and asked if I'd recently changed anything since my internet showed up as public rather than private. I didn’t bother getting into it and just ended the call straight away because it seemed dodgy.

Got a call from this number the other day. The lady on the other end spoke with a strong Indian accent and said she was calling on behalf of BT. She asked if I was satisfied with their service since apparently some customers had been moaning about bad connections. Then she tried to offer me a 40% discount on my bill. To 'verify' who I was, she asked for my email address. I told her to be careful with her next reply as I work for UK Government Security and the call was being recorded. She quickly ended the call after that.

They tried ringing me a few times earlier this week but there was no one speaking when I picked up. Today, someone finally answered and sounded like they had a thick (Indian?) accent. I had to ask her to say things again a couple of times before I managed to hear the word ‘internet’. Once I cottoned on to that, I just told her to bugger off.

Got a call from an Indian bloke claiming he was from BT about some speed issues around here. I ran a speed test and it showed nothing wrong, but he just wouldn’t accept it. So I flipped it around on him, told him if there’s no issues, why am I even chatting with him? Then he asked me to do some compatibility check, and that's when I just said nah, cheers and ended the call.

Got a call on my landline from 01615 319445. I didn't pick up, let it go to voicemail but the call just dropped straight away, no message left. The number starts with 0161, which is Manchester, but I neither know anyone nor any company from there. Feels like one of those dodgy scam calls to me.
