I received a rather peculiar phone call from a firm based in Manchester the other day. The caller addressed me by my first name and claimed to represent an employment agency. She mentioned an upcoming event scheduled for the 19th of January. However, she seemed to lose her train of thought, stumbling over her words until she abruptly hung up before finishing her sentence. Not a peep since then. It gave me the impression that she might be quite inexperienced at cold calling. Overall, the whole encounter felt rather benign. I've attended career workshops in the past, so I'm somewhat familiar with the drill. It seems likely that they procured my name from a mailing list but lacked my address; otherwise, they'd have figured out that a three-hour trek by train wasn’t feasible for me. Luckily, this time, it didn’t appear to be a seedy scam.
