The individual on the line stated this was a remedy for past overcharges. However, when I probed further about these alleged overcharges, he cryptically referred to some “technical issues.” Apparently, this so-called “discount” was simply a reward for my timely bill payments and commitment to their service. I then asked for his name and, lo and behold, he cut the line on me. It certainly gives off a strong whiff of a scam!

Make sure you block the number and report it to 7726. Also, consider writing to your MP with a couple of questions: why can’t we report scam calls straight to the police ‘action fraud’ site anymore, and why hasn't the phone industry rolled out Caller ID Authentication yet? It would really help cut down on these nuisance calls. Text scams should be sent to 7726, and if you get emails or screenshots of scam texts, forward them to the police at ‘[email protected]’ for them to look into.
