Then they come around offering a "free inspection." Watch out! It’s likely just a way for them to snoop around your house and try to con you for as much money as they can.

I received a rather peculiar phone call from someone purporting to be from an energy company, stating that my residence was at risk due to inadequate loft insulation. They were keen on scheduling a complimentary inspection of our loft insulation. However, it struck me as a bit dodgy - we don’t actually possess a loft in our home! Surely, this can’t be on the level.

Stay polite and say you’ll jot down their number to pass on to ‘The Landlord’, since they’d be the right person to deal with it. Usually, they hang up pretty quick after that.
