Had a rather dodgy phone call today! The chap seemed to know my name and was probing whether I owned my property, my age, and even what brand of washing machine I had! Quite the intrusive little chat, if you ask me. There were these overly casual questions wedged between the more probing ones, which made it all the more bizarre. The bloke spoke with a distinct Indian accent and had phishing written all over him. I decided to spin a yarn and told him a load of nonsense before I cut the conversation short. I've blocked the number, but I get the feeling they've got a whole arsenal of different lines to ring from!

It's quite remarkable how they already have a bit of your information, and when you pick up the phone, they greet you by name. The lady on the other end assures you that she's not trying to sell you anything, but only wishes to pose a few questions that, according to her, will take around half a minute to answer. However, fast forward three minutes later, and after what feels like a hundred inquiries, I found myself hanging up the call-not before ensuring I provided her with a load of incorrect details, mind you. What they're really after is collecting further precise and verified information about you, which they then proceed to sell off to others without your knowledge. So, while she claimed she wasn’t selling anything, it becomes glaringly clear that they are indeed peddling your information behind the scenes. The most effective strategy, I reckon, is to feed them false details or, upon hearing your name, play the part of the bewildered one and feign ignorance of who they are referring to. Hopefully, this way, you’ll reduce the chances of your information being circulated and cut down on the frequency of these unsolicited calls!
