We keep getting calls from numbers starting with 0161 524 … This is now the fifth variation we’ve had (3003), after 5805, 4946, 3585 and 6532. They always do the same thing. Since the number isn’t familiar, we let it ring out to voicemail. Just as soon as the answering machine picks up, they cut the call.
It’s obviously one of those cold call scams.
I can’t get why they’re so stubborn, or why these 0161 524 numbers can’t be flagged and blocked as spam.

Got a call again from 01615243003 and this site shows the call is from Manchester. They've tracked over 36,000 active spam calls from this code, and in total there’s over 4 million calls coming from the 0161 area. These are scam calls, no doubt. It’s baffling that no one seems to take action - whether it’s the phone companies, the police, or any govt agency. Why do they just ignore it? Probably coz phone firms benefit financially, and maybe some senior law enforcement folks get kickbacks from these scams too. Banks are involved too, dealing with the cash. Meanwhile, clueless politicians keep making laws full of loopholes. Cold calling is technically illegal, but nothing changes. Frustrating!

I didn’t pick up when this number called, and since they didn’t leave any voicemail, I’m guessing it’s probably just a scam.
