Yesterday, while I was enjoying a meal with my family, I got an unexpected call from this number, which really put a dampener on things. To make matters worse, it turned out to be someone claiming to represent a housing and repairs service, but I quickly realised it was just an Indian scam artist trying to pull a fast one. Quite frustrating, to say the least!

Someone with an Indian accent rang me claiming to be from the housing repair department regarding a damp issue. I tried asking a few questions, but he didn't have a clue about my name or address, just the number I called from. When I queried where they got my details, he said it was from the housing association, but we aren’t even part of any housing association. I ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

Got a call from a bloke with a strong Indian accent asking about plumbing repairs for a property managed by Dacorum council. When I asked for his name, company, and info about the repair he said was logged with them, he just hung up. Rang the council’s repair dept after and they confirmed the call wasn’t from them at all.

Got a call from a Manchester number, 0162 520 2790, saying I’d supposedly booked some home repair work through the council. The weird part is, I’m based in London! The automated voice kept stopping, like it was waiting for me to say something, so every time it paused, I just said ‘So?’ The message kept going after each ‘So?’, and I couldn’t help but laugh since that was clearly not what it expected. Eventually, the call just dropped. Blocked the number straight away. Absolutely hate these scammers!

i got a call from this number, and the person claimed they worked for a firm handling payouts related to a case a while back where banks were caught secretly taking money from customers. they wanted to verify my info first and said i’d only be charged if i actually qualified for compensation. not sure if this is legit or just some scam trying to snag my bank info, so i told them to take me off their list regardless.

After looking at the previous comments, I’m pretty sure it’s one of those claims companies fishing for issues with rental properties (so if you’re a homeowner, they’re not interested). I’m in legal services myself and can tell these kinds of claims, including ones about supposedly missold solar panels, will be the next big thing like PPI was. Blocked the number straight away.
