Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent claiming she was ringing from Curry’s PC World mobile, telling me I could switch my sim only deal without any fines. She wanted me to confirm which kind of phone I had. I asked her to say again who she was and the reason for her call, then the line just suddenly cut off. Seen other calls from numbers pretending to be Virgin and Carphone Warehouse too - defo a scam!

I usually ignore calls from unfamiliar numbers, but when this one showed up with a 0161 Manchester area code, I figured it might be someone I’d been expecting to hear from in Manchester. The lady on the line claimed to be from Carphone Warehouse, offering to update my details and find me a better mobile plan. I let her carry on with her spiel, then dropped the bomb that Carphone Warehouse went bust in the UK back in 2020. She got all annoyed and told me to bloody well get lost, so I cheekily sent her all my best regards!

Similar to what others have said before, I picked up the call but they just cut off straight away. I reckon it’s some kind of automated system fishing for live contacts, probably hoping to sell the numbers afterward.

Then they passed me on to a ‘supervisor’ who sounded totally identical to the first caller! They asked for loads of personal info to “verify” me. When I asked what exactly they wanted, they mentioned my full name, address including postcode, bits of my Virgin password, and part of my account number. I told them I wasn’t happy sharing so much, and ended the call straight away.

I received a call around 5:44 pm, but whoever called didn't say a word and stayed on the line for just 7 seconds. I couldn't catch anything, maybe my speaker wasn’t working properly.
