Just like others have said, I got a pretty harsh voicemail from some American robot. It mentioned something about 'consequences' but the message kept breaking up so I couldn’t quite catch it all. Got a call from someone with an American twang claiming to be from ‘HM Revenue and Customs’. They insisted there was a case filed against me and demanded the contact information of my solicitor. It was blatantly a scam, so I made it abundantly clear that I wasn't falling for their nonsense!

Just got a text today, 02/08/2019 at around 11:18, supposedly from HMRC. It was from a woman called Rachel Scott with an American accent, warning me that ignoring the message would lead to serious consequences. I didn’t bother calling back as I figured it was some sort of scam. Honestly, it was quite a scary and threatening message. I can see how someone might easily fall for it and feel really intimidated.

I saw it pop up as a missed call on my phone and didn’t bother answering it. Cheers to everyone sharing the info here, really useful. I reckon I had a call like this from somewhere near Manchester last year but didn’t pick up that either. Guess I was lucky then! Still, I’ll be ready for these pesky calls if they come back around. When I returned the call, a bloke answered saying HMRC was about to take legal steps against me. He used my full name and said he’d list the charges but told me not to interrupt. I said fine, then he suddenly asked for a YES or NO answer! I explained I was at work and might get distracted. After that, he mumbled something and just hung up on me. Seems very dodgy - I’m sure HMRC wouldn’t threaten legal action without proper notice. Totally feels like a scam to me.
