Got a call that lasted about 15 seconds, then a voicemail followed. The person on the message said they were from HMRC and claimed to be an American officer. They dropped a phone number and an extension, warning me that if I or my lawyer didn’t ring back, I’d be in serious legal trouble. You can even hear a weird beep at the end like a computer sound, making it obvious the whole thing was fake. Honestly, these scammers don’t even try to hide it.

I received a couple of missed calls from this number, and the voicemail claimed to be from HMRC, warning me of legal action if I failed to get in touch with them or my solicitor.
