This morning I got a call on my mobile but I didn’t pick it up cos I already guessed it was one of those scam calls.

Somebody phoned saying it was about getting tax back on a PPI refund from M&S Bank. I told them they’d got the wrong number and that it was actually my dad’s, who sadly passed away recently. After that, they just said that since he was gone, no one else could make a claim and then hung up.

Got a call from a lady saying I had a tax refund waiting, but I don't even pay tax! I've heard about these tricks before, so I just ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

I did end up sharing some info at first (feeling daft now), but then something felt off, so I stopped giving any more details. I did give them my National Insurance number though. I received a call from this number, claiming to be from Halifax Bank. They were probing for details like my pension figures, date of birth, and National Insurance Number. I don’t usually pick up unless I know the number, but since I was waiting for someone, I answered without saying anything. Suddenly, a warning popped up saying it might be a scam. I then said hello, and a lady on the other end asked if it was really me. I told her the number has been flagged as a possible scam. I’ve been getting loads of calls from these lot, and they actually claimed to be from my bank. They even knew about a PPI payout I got, including the amount refunded! They said they were sorting a refund from HMRC connected to those claims. Thought I’d caught them in time. They’re really clever, asking you when’s best to call back, and if you ring their number, you get some slick recorded message. Honestly, this is super dodgy, watch out!

Just as I wrote my last comment, they phoned again - this time a woman speaking with a South African accent. I asked her where they got my info from, and she said it was about a claim to recover interest I supposedly paid to HMRC. I told her I never paid anything and that I didn’t think she was being honest, but she just carried on regardless!

I reckon this was some kind of PPI scam about a rebate from HMRC. They asked me for my name, where I lived, and whether I owned a diesel car. Foolishly, I gave them the info 'cos I was curious to see what they'd say next. That was all though, felt a bit strange. I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

Got a call about some kind of PPI claim and supposed tax refund from HMRC. They already had my full name, birthday, address and even when I made the claim. When I asked why they needed to confirm my info if they’d called me first, they just hung up. Definitely a scam.
