Phone number ☎️ 01614290846 👆 is reported as a persistent and well-known scam involving callers claiming to be from BT Technical Support. Callers, often with South Asian accents, typically warn of viruses, hacking, or imminent internet disconnection, urging recipients to grant remote access to their computers. Many report multiple calls daily, often very early in the morning, causing distress, especially to elderly and vulnerable individuals. The number frequently appears with a Manchester area code but is often linked to international origins and does not belong to BT. Users advise never to engage or provide personal information and highlight the ineffectiveness of the Telephone Preference Service in blocking these calls. Reporting to official fraud authorities and using call-blocking services like BT’s Call Protect is recommended. These calls are fraudulent and should be treated with caution.

Got a call from an Asian guy saying he was with BT, telling me my computer had a virus. I do have BT broadband, but they’ve never called me out of the blue before. The number showed a Manchester area code, but my phone said the call was from overseas. I just ended the call straight away without saying anything.

Today, I received a pair of calls from this dodgy BT number in just under two hours. It's imperative that action is taken to put a halt to these calls before someone falls prey to a scam and ends up losing their cash or worse, their personal information.

Got a call today from a man with an Asian accent saying there was an issue with my internet. I told him to remove my details from their list, but he snapped back saying it couldn’t be done. I warned him if he rang back I’d report the number to the cops.

Yet another scam from BT! I've had two calls from this number already. I make it a point to verify through this site every time. Much appreciated!

A guy with an Asian accent called saying he was from BT regarding our internet. The caller ID showed an 0161 number, but my phone also flagged it as an international call. I decided to just hang up.

Got a call from a lady with an Asian accent claiming to be from BT, said some virus had infected my system over the past few days. I told her that made no sense at all and hung up straight away. Happy I did after seeing the other reviews here.

A bit of a twist! After receiving my fourth call of the morning, I took a gamble and asked, “Is this BT?” as I picked up the handset. To my surprise, a foreign accent replied, “No, it’s Virgin Media.” He then proceeded with the usual spiel. It caught me off guard for a moment-seeing as I’m indeed a Virgin Media customer-but I quickly figured that it’s probably straightforward to identify who you’re dealing with. Just a heads-up for everyone out there, as VM seems to favour their Indian call centres!

Got a call from a bloke who sounded Indian, said his name was Richard and claimed he was from BT. He told me my internet would be cut off for 2 days - definitely a scam!

They rang me once more. This time it was a lady, Asian Rosie, claiming to be from BT Technical Support, saying there was 'unusual activity' and 'hacking attempts' on my account.

Got a call from someone called Rosie from BT about my internet, which isn't with BT anyway, and there was loads of noise in the background. Definitely a call centre, so I've blocked the number now. Even though I'm registered with TPS, these annoying calls keep coming through!

Got a call and knew right away it was dodgy, so I just hung up.

I can't believe I've received my fourth call from this number before it's even hit 10am! It's got to be some foreign chap on the line, going on about a supposed technical glitch with my Internet connection. Quite a nuisance, to be honest!

Received a cheeky call this morning at 08:08 from a chap named "Richard" who had quite the pronounced foreign accent. He claimed to be representing BT and insisted there was an issue with my internet connection. When I requested his phone number and extension to verify his identity, he suddenly went silent and hung up. So, take heed, everyone-this is definitely a scam. Don’t fall for it!

Pretty clear it’s a call centre from Manchester - spoke to an Asian lady saying she was from BT Technical Support. I just told her BT only calls from 0800 numbers, and she hung up straight away. Looks like they just want to get into your computer. Doesn’t the TPS block these calls? I’m registered with them, but clearly they don’t do much! I’ve had quite a few of these calls recently, either from Manchester or some ‘International’ number. Like others, I’m more concerned about older or vulnerable folks being caught out - surely this should be illegal nowadays.

Two years back, I invested in a BT8500 phone. Recently, I noticed a missed call from an unknown number, but since I got the phone, I've not had any similar calls come through. I believe the BT8500 has now been superseded by the BT8600 model. Honestly, it’s the best phone purchase I’ve ever made!

On the 17th and 14th of April 2017, I had a couple of rather dodgy calls from this number. My phone indicated it was an international line! It turns out these blokes are based in India and are up to no good, likely trying to swindle us. The moment I answered, a woman immediately blurted out that my internet would be disconnected the following day. She didn’t even bother to ask if this was Mr or Mrs (First name) (Last name) - a classic giveaway that it’s a scam! Then a chap came on the line, and I challenged him directly, asking why he was trying to pull a fast one. His response was quite cheeky: "Why do you think?" I couldn't help but tell him to bugger off, and just like that, he hung up. What a right pain!

Just like many others, I've received half a dozen calls from this number claiming there's an issue with my BT internet - which I clearly don’t subscribe to!

This number keeps ringing me over the past couple of days, today like every couple of hours. They say they're from BT Tech Support but I reckon it's some kind of ransomware scam. I asked for my BT account number, which they should have if they're legit. Most times they just hang up. Like others mentioned, they claim there's hacking software on my PC but couldn't specify what it was - said they'd show it on my screen. I told them no chance. Another call said nothing was wrong with my PC, just my internet connection, but still they wanted to access my computer. What a load of rubbish.

I’ve had a right nuisance today with this number ringing me twice already - first at around 8 in the morning and then again at half past twelve. It’s the same daft woman each time. This afternoon, she cut me off mid-sentence while she waffled on about some supposed errors. Naturally, I attempted to return the call using the number I got through 1471, but to my surprise, the BT line came back with “number not recognised.” What I’d really like to know is how it's possible to get a number from 1471 only for it to be deemed invalid when I try to dial it back. Anyone able to shed some light on this odd predicament?

Got another 10 calls from these awful folks just in the past couple of days, and there were at least as many last week if not more. I reckon everyone should start blowing up social media with posts exposing them, maybe then they’ll stop wasting their time bothering people. I’m really worried that some poor person who actually has BT for their internet might end up getting ripped off by these scammers.

I’ve received yet another ten calls from these awful characters just in the past 48 hours, not to mention an equally frustrating week before that. It’s high time we inundated social media with warnings about these creeps, hopefully making it so undesirable for them that they’ll think twice before continuing their antics. I fear that some unsuspecting soul, perhaps a BT customer blissfully unaware, might fall prey to these unscrupulous individuals.

This morning, on the 11th of April, at precisely 9:48 am, I received a rather intriguing call from a lady named Lauren who claimed to be representing BT. She mentioned that there were some concerns regarding my internet connection. When I pointed out that I'm not actually a BT customer, she insisted that they had access to information from all telecom providers. Now, if that's the case, why hasn’t my actual provider tipped me off about this issue? One can't help but wonder if this is just another convoluted scam...

A lady with an Indian accent called us bright and early at 8am pretending to be from BT's tech support, but my missus wasn’t having any of it. Seriously, why won’t BT just block this number?
