I keep getting calls linked to Gumtree, even though I’m signed up with the TPS, it doesn’t seem to stop them at all. I try telling them I’m gonna report their number, but nothing ever changes. A lot of these calls seem to come from companies based in India, and they know they can get away with it because they’re outside the usual trading rules, so they just keep ringing anyway.

This one’s a classic for me. I usually say, “Cheers for ringing, but can you hold on a moment?” then I set the phone down, wait around 15 seconds, and come back with, “Please don’t hang up, your scam call matters to us and will be picked up shortly.” After that, I just leave it and walk off until they give up and hang up.

I usually tell them I’ve had an accident that wasn’t my doing, something about a nasty bend in the road I didn’t take properly. I say it was so bad it ended up chopping me clean off, then I mention I’m sorting a personal injury claim to get rebuild surgery - gotta attach my head to a shiny new bod, seeing as the old one was looking a bit rubbish. Unsurprisingly, they just hang up straight away after that!

Got one of those accident claim calls again! They kick off with the usual line about you being in a car crash or something. Total scam, just fishing around to get your card info. Almost all these calls seem to come from some call centre in India.
