Today, my missus got a dodgy call from this number saying they were from HMRC and threatening legal action unless she pressed 1 immediately. She was told it was to stop prosecution or something like that. Checked with HMRC, and they said it’s definitely a scam, advising to just hang up. I heard these scammers also send out fake texts and phishing emails, which is just vile. Seems like they might be using real numbers to trick people, but the whole thing is fake and just nasty people trying to con others.
