Got a call from RTC UK claiming to be with the Motor Protection Bureau. As soon as I questioned them, they just ended the call. Felt like one of those road accident scam calls to me.

They kept ringing non stop so I finally picked up. They told me I'd been in an accident and could get some sort of compensation. I pretended for a bit, saying the crash was so bad I couldn’t even recall it, so surely I could make a claim? The call lasted quite a while before they twigged I wasn’t taking it seriously. Then they started swearing and hung up. Blocked the number now but I’m sure they’ll try again from a different one.

Insurance scams, a bit different this time. Instead of straight away asking if I was hurt, they tried a new tactic about getting feedback on a courtesy car. I had a bit of fun with them, asking questions, and they ended the call pretty quick. I’m sure they were gonna try the usual "were you hurt" routine next. Just to be clear, I’ve never been in any accident or had one of those courtesy cars.

A person calling from 'Direct Response' rang me out of the blue, asking about a road incident supposedly within the last couple of years. I mentioned one accident that came to mind. Once they figured out I wasn’t connected and it wasn’t my car, they just ended the call abruptly without another word. Bit rude, if you ask me. I'd steer clear of anyone calling from that company if you get a ring from them.

It’s obvious he was already chatting with someone else when he rang me. I’ve now put this number on my growing blocked list. It really winds me up when people can’t even bother to say “Oops, wrong number” or something like that!

She knew my name straight away and started asking about some damage to my car. Stuff like if it had been fixed, how long it took, and if I’d been given a courtesy car. After a bunch of questions, she just said ‘okay thanks, I’ll get this sorted for you’ then hung up. Said she was calling from the motor insurance bureau or something along those lines. Bit odd really, but I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

The caller ID showed Manchester, and since I’m headed there soon for a training and just reserved a hotel there recently, I tried calling back twice but the call cut off before it even started ringing. Someone said they were Tracey from Direct Response and asked if I’d recently told anyone about accident damage on my car. When I just asked “why?”, they ended the call immediately. Honestly, it’s better to just be straight with these leeching companies - the folks on the phone are probably earning way below what they deserve, so it’s not really their fault.
