9 yearsI received a rather peculiar phone call from a chap claiming to be John Williams. He mentioned a government-backed initiative that, over the past two decades, had uncovered that I’d been unfairly overcharged by my bank, and apparently, they had retrieved a sum of £3900 for me. The twist? A solicitor, conveniently located nearby, could hand me the cheque today-if only I popped down to the post office to fill out a money gram transaction and fork over a 10% fee of £390. All I needed to do was provide the solicitor with the receipt for the transfer. I countered his proposition by suggesting he should provide me with the cheque first so I could deposit it into my account, and once it cleared, I’d settle up the £390 with him. His response? 'You’re joking, right?' I merely replied, 'No, you are the one who's taking me for a fool, mate!' At that, the line went dead. Absolute scam, though not particularly clever about it!John Williams9 yearsI received a dodgy phone call purporting that a solicitor would be delivering a cheque for £3600 directly to me. They wanted me to fork over £360 in cash upon receiving it. This was just one of many calls I’ve had, all insisting that my PPI claim had somehow come through. It felt very suspicious!9 yearsMy mum was approached by a bloke with a strong accent, who identified himself as Alex. He rang her the following morning, aiming to set up a meeting since he was in the vicinity. It baffles me how these individuals manage to con those who are easily swayed!Alex10 yearsAbsolutely a con aimed at unsuspecting individuals. Don't let yourself be deceived!10 yearsWell, I had a rather similar experience myself. I was informed that there was a delightful sum of £3600 waiting for me, allegedly due to bank charges. However, the caller addressed me using my married name, without even inquiring about my maiden name, which raised a red flag immediately. They then requested that I head over to the post office to fork out £360. I flatly refused and told the chap, who had a thick accent but went by a typical British name, that they could keep their so-called £3600. He abruptly terminated the call, and I thought to myself, good riddance!10 yearsThis number seems to be linked to con artists preying on parents with a lure of a £3600 reimbursement. The name they've associated with it is Graham Robinson.Graham Robinson10 yearsAbsolutely dodgy! I received a rather implausible offer for a cheque worth £3,600, claiming it was a refund for excessive banking fees. It turned into a jolly good game, dragging them along for three days! Their so-called top solicitor promised to pop round with the cheque, but lo and behold, I had to rush to the Post Office first to fork out £360. It's quite astonishing that they didn't even bother asking for my bank details-perhaps their scamming game isn't what it used to be! Eventually, their pleasant demeanour vanished and they became quite aggressive when I refused to play ball.Post Office10 yearsI've received three calls now from some chaps claiming to be Adam Smith, Graham Robinson and David Cooper, all with Indian accents. I played along for a bit, leading them to believe we were on the verge of getting the MoneyGram form sorted. But when I mentioned it was an international document, they promptly hung up! Next time, I reckon I’ll demand to speak with good old Joe Bloggs, or perhaps his brother Fred! How’s that for a laugh?Adam SmithGraham RobinsonDavid CooperMoneyGramJoe BloggsFred10 yearsI received a suspicious call from this number, clearly trying to pull a fast one on me. The caller claimed to represent Claims Advisory Service, a proper company, mind you. When I mentioned I would verify their credentials with CAS, the chap named "Alex" abruptly ended the call. Very dodgy indeed!Claims Advisory ServiceCASAlex10 yearsReceived a call claiming to be from a claims advisory service, informing me that I was eligible for a refund regarding some bank charges. They mentioned a cheque for £3,600 was supposedly on its way, but they required me to pay £360 via MoneyGram first, which I'd need to send through the post office. No way I'm falling for that. I filed a claim with my insurance just a short while ago, and suddenly this call comes through. I can't help but wonder if these insurance firms or perhaps those recovery agents are sharing our information with scammers? Or is it all just a mere coincidence?10 yearsThey've tried to reach us six times in just two days! Any suggestions on how to put an end to this? All the calls seem to be coming from Manchester, which is a bit odd.Manchester10 yearsI picked up and immediately hung the phone back up.10 yearsThey mentioned my name directly, claiming to be solicitors, and went on to say that an incident had occurred involving someone from this address.10 yearsSome bloke rang me up asking about a crash where apparently I got hurt bad after being forced off the road. What a load of bollocks, I can't drive at all since I'm legally blind! I kept him on the line for nearly an hour just chatting, then finally told him the truth. Didn’t seem to sit well with him. Pretty sure I won’t be hearing from them again.10 yearsI've signed up for the Telephone Preference Service, yet this number still managed to ring me up. Just like others have mentioned, they're insisting that a resident at my address was involved in a car crash within the past three years. I promptly ended the call; definitely scammers at work here.Telephone Preference Service10 yearsIf you've got this number, pass it over to your mobile network provider. They should be able to wipe it off their systems. Although it’s a UK number, it’s ringing in from overseas. These folks have a knack for disguising their true intentions, luring you in with a facade of trustworthiness. I can’t help but think that companies like BT could put a stop to it, but perhaps they’re profiting from it in some way. Whatever you do, steer clear of sharing any personal details with them - they’re nothing more than con artists!UKBT10 yearsI recently had a rather odd experience with a call regarding a car crash. The person on the other end seemed to be using a British name, but their accent was distinctly Indian or Pakistani. It felt a bit suspicious, to be honest.10 yearsGot a call from an asian guy claiming to be a solicitor, asking bout some accident supposedly in the past three years. I told him to check his info properly and never bother me again, seems like a scam to me.10 yearsI tried calling the number from 30/09/16 and ended up getting an answering service. How on earth are they still managing to contact me?Telephone Preference Service10 yearsVery similar to what others have mentioned. I too declined to affirm or reject the information he provided. I hope this doesn't come across as rude, but his accent was quite thick, making it challenging for me to catch every word he uttered.10 yearsGot a call from a guy with an Asian accent claiming he was calling from RC Solicitors. Definitely seemed suspicious.10 yearsThese folks are just after car crash claims.10 yearsIt's pretty unsettling when there's just silence on the other end, makes you wonder what's going on.10 yearsIt appears I've stumbled across Rc Solicitors. They trotted out the same old spiel-questions about my address and any accidents I've had in the past three years. Rather than giving them a straightforward answer, I decided to have a bit of fun and neither confirm nor deny anything. When I pressed the caller for the reason behind the call, he rambled on for a good ten minutes without providing an actual answer. Eventually, he shifted me over to one of his mates, who boldly berated me for supposedly wasting his time! Quite the amusing encounter, really!Rc10 yearsGot a call about a car crash that never even happened to us. The line was awful, full of crackles and buzzing, making it nearly impossible to understand. The bloke on the other end wasn’t keen on explaining where he got our number from, very dodgy about it.10 yearsI’m quite puzzled as to why this company seems to be disregarding my registration with the Telephone Preference Service. It’s rather frustrating! I feel compelled to lodge a formal complaint against them for this disregard.Telephone Preference Service10 yearsEarlier today, I received a rather unsettling phone call from a chap named Dominic, who claimed to be affiliated with Highway Law Firm. What struck me as odd was the fact that he addressed me by my name. Rather than introduce myself or respond directly, I inquired, “Who’s on the line?” He proceeded to mention that someone at my address had supposedly reported an accident in the past three years, asking if that was indeed the case. I informed him that I wasn’t willing to provide any details until I had further information regarding his identity and his firm. Shortly after my inquiry, he abruptly ended the call.
