didn't pick up - left me a message on voicemail. someon from hmrc told me to ring them back on a number. said if they dont get a reply from me or my lawyer theyll take legal steps against me.

Got a recorded message pretending to be from HMRC, telling me or my solicitor to ring 0161 250 4202 straight away. It said it was urgent and if I didn’t call there’d be legal trouble. I can see why folks might fall for it, since it looks like a proper landline. But please don’t call back! HMRC would never get in touch like this, especially not out of nowhere with a robotic voice. If there was an issue with your taxes, they’d have sent something by post, email or phoned you a long time before any threats of legal stuff.
