This is a classic scam that really should be reported by texting 7726, just like the police Action Fraud site recommends for phishing alerts. There’s a show on the BBC iPlayer that’s brilliant for seeing how these bank frauds actually operate, though I can’t mention the name here due to some algorithm on this page. The programme features ethical hackers who hack into scammers’ systems mid-scam, trying to halt the fraud in real time. It’s no simple task, as these con artists use some seriously advanced tech and setups. Honestly, anyone with a phone and bank account ought to watch it.

Got a call on my home phone from 01608651113, a bloke saying money’s been taken from my credit card. He told me to hit 3 if I didn’t know about it. Sounded like some sort of robot or recorded voice, so I just ended the call straight away. My landline’s with BT, by the way. Definitely dodgy!

Got a call on my landline, some recording mentioning Visa, Mastercard and something about £500. Didn’t trust it so I just ended the call. Definitely sounds like a scam.
