This number called me, and when I picked up, there was a pause before anyone spoke. I didnt say a thing, just whacked out my trusty air horn and blasted it loud into the receiver. Hopefully, that’s one very irritated and deaf nuisance caller from abroad who’ll think twice before bugging me again. Honestly, every time I get a silent call like that, I do the same thing as soon as I answer!

The accent didn’t sound local at all, definitely not a Brit. They asked if my boiler was around ten years old - which is mad, cos if it’s that age it should be working just fine. They claimed it was connected to some government program, but honestly, that just feels like another one of those empty promises. We’re on the Tel Preference Service, so these kinds of calls really grind my gears. Just some guy out there trying to cash in by annoying folks who already despise these relentless call centre rings.
