Avoid following any instructions they give you! It’s a complete scam where they claim there’s an issue with your computer. I played along for about 12 minutes, pretending to be clueless, and then I wrapped it up by saying, “I’m puzzled as to why you're requesting that, considering I work as a computer technician.” They swiftly ended the call after that!

They rang me and then just cut off. I’ve got a disability and it’s really painful for my legs to reach the phone.

some bloke called claiming he was from tech support, something like the research and development side of the technical helpline. he told me some sort of program had sneaked onto my pc that my antivirus couldn’t catch. kept insisting i sit in front of my computer while he guided me through checking it out. he even said he’d wait while i turned it on. at that moment i just cut the call.
