So at about 3.18pm on 25th March 2013, I picked up a call from some bloke claiming to be from a home improvement firm or something. Weird thing was, he knew my name and kept banging on about this "Denny Lenny" who apparently lived at my place (which he got right!). I kept trying to tell him it was wrong, but he just didn’t let up. Had to tell him to shut it right before I hung up.

Got a call from someone claiming they got my number off trading standards, but I checked and they don't actually have my mobile. They were ringing residents about noise coming from driveways and said they'd give a £400 voucher for home improvements as compensation. After that, they started asking if I wanted any work done within the next couple of years. I just ended the call straight away.

This phone number has been ringing me constantly since last year, even though I've told them plenty of times that I'm not interested. I just decided to ignore it, recognising the number straight away, to see how persistent they'd be. Well, they’re at it again right now, only a couple of minutes after their last call! The first time they phoned, it was about some energy saving deal. I reckon it's about time I blocked them, especially now that I’ve got the number completely memorised!

So this firm called my 87 year old mum saying her neighbours were getting some construction done, and as a sort of sorry for the lorries being in her street, she’d get £500 worth of free work on her roof, gutters, or insulation. I got in touch with Norfolk police who told me it’s a scam and to let them know if anyone shows up at her door.

They claimed to be from East Anglian Energy and launched into some survey nonsense about cavity insulation or something. I said maybe, something about moss on the roof, then said no to that being covered. She asked if I’d invest in energy-saving stuff, I said I’d rather put it towards moving house. Then she wanted me to confirm my identity, so I asked where she was. She said Rackheath, which could be right. I just wished her a nice day. If they ring again, they’ll get told where to go.

Got a call from a woman saying she was with a new Ipswich firm doing a survey on my home’s energy efficiency. Some bloke rang me from this number sayin his mum lived at number 15 and was gettin some work done. I told him there’s a young couple at 15, way too young to be his mum. Then he says, oh, I meant Church View, the street next door. I knew that wasn’t right ’cause my own mum used to live there and sold it to another young couple. Then he says he meant Marthan, not Marham, and got confused. I said, so you’re tellin me that two villages miles apart with similar names both have a street called Church View right next to each other? At that point, he just hung up.

I received a call from a company named EuroGlaze based in Norwich. They offered me six complimentary energy-efficient light bulbs in return for answering a few questions. They assured me there were no catches involved, and that I’d receive some vouchers through the mail afterwards. However, they were rather vague about what those vouchers entailed. I engaged with them for a bit, discussing topics like our conservatory, double glazing, doors, the flat roof, the presence of moss on the property, and whether our walls were single or double brick. Ultimately, I made it clear that I wasn't interested in any vouchers and that I didn’t have any jobs that needed attending to related to their inquiries. It's worth noting that this was indeed a cold call, despite me being registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).

I said no and he just hung up. Sounded pretty pushy. I looked up Euroglade Ltd on Companies House and it seems this firm might just be a cover.

You can request BT to register you with their 1572 service for a modest monthly charge. They maintain an extensive database of fraudulent numbers, and any calls from these will be prevented from coming through. If you're subscribed to 1572 and a new scammer attempts to contact you, just dial 1572 on your phone. You'll then have the chance to add the number to your personal blacklist. Should they try to reach you again, the call will be terminated after a single ring, and their number will be added to BT's scam caller list. Another option is to pick up a Call Guardian phone from BT at a reasonable price. It requires that anyone who calls has to state their identity before you decide to accept the call. If it turns out they’re up to no good, simply hit button 3 to permanently block their number. Hope this proves useful!

Got a call from this number at about 10.30am on 2/5/19. BT’s 1572 anti-scam service blocked the call straight away, so I couldn’t tell who it was. I’ve seen some say it’s from a firm called Easy Glaze in Norwich. If they call back, I’m definitely reporting them to the Information Commissioner’s Office, as they can hand out big fines to these types of callers. Not sure how they managed to get my number since it’s withheld. The company isn’t listed in the phone directory or on Norfolk’s Trusted Traders list either, so watch out.

I had a rather frustrating experience with a chap from a double glazing company. He couldn't seem to give me a straight answer about why he was ringing, and when I pressed him on how he even got hold of my number, he just dodged the question. Quite the dodgy salesman, if you ask me!
