So at about 3.18pm on 25th March 2013, I picked up a call from some bloke claiming to be from a home improvement firm or something. Weird thing was, he knew my name and kept banging on about this "Denny Lenny" who apparently lived at my place (which he got right!). I kept trying to tell him it was wrong, but he just didn’t let up. Had to tell him to shut it right before I hung up.

Got a call from someone claiming they got my number off trading standards, but I checked and they don't actually have my mobile. They were ringing residents about noise coming from driveways and said they'd give a £400 voucher for home improvements as compensation. After that, they started asking if I wanted any work done within the next couple of years. I just ended the call straight away.

This phone number has been ringing me constantly since last year, even though I've told them plenty of times that I'm not interested. I just decided to ignore it, recognising the number straight away, to see how persistent they'd be. Well, they’re at it again right now, only a couple of minutes after their last call! The first time they phoned, it was about some energy saving deal. I reckon it's about time I blocked them, especially now that I’ve got the number completely memorised!

So this firm called my 87 year old mum saying her neighbours were getting some construction done, and as a sort of sorry for the lorries being in her street, she’d get £500 worth of free work on her roof, gutters, or insulation. I got in touch with Norfolk police who told me it’s a scam and to let them know if anyone shows up at her door.

They claimed to be from East Anglian Energy and launched into some survey nonsense about cavity insulation or something. I said maybe, something about moss on the roof, then said no to that being covered. She asked if I’d invest in energy-saving stuff, I said I’d rather put it towards moving house. Then she wanted me to confirm my identity, so I asked where she was. She said Rackheath, which could be right. I just wished her a nice day. If they ring again, they’ll get told where to go.

Some bloke rang me from this number sayin his mum lived at number 15 and was gettin some work done. I told him there’s a young couple at 15, way too young to be his mum. Then he says, oh, I meant Church View, the street next door. I knew that wasn’t right ’cause my own mum used to live there and sold it to another young couple. Then he says he meant Marthan, not Marham, and got confused. I said, so you’re tellin me that two villages miles apart with similar names both have a street called Church View right next to each other? At that point, he just hung up.

Got a call from someone saying they were from EuroGlaze in Norwich. They offered 6 free energy-saving bulbs if I just answered a few questions, claimed there was no catch and said I’d get some vouchers by post. Didn’t explain what the vouchers were exactly for though. The questions were about our conservatory, if we had double glazed windows, doors, a flat roof, any moss on the house or roof, plus whether the walls were single or double brick. I made it clear I didn’t want any vouchers and didn’t need any work done based on those questions. This was a random cold call even though I’m registered with the TPS.

You can get BT to add you to their 1572 service for a small fee each month. They keep a massive database of scam numbers, so if one of those calls you, it'll get blocked straight away. If you're signed up and you get a call from a new scammer, just dial 1572, and you'll be able to add that number to your own blacklist. After that, if they call again, it’ll only ring once before it's blocked, and BT will add it to their scammer list too. Another option is to buy one of BT’s Call Guardian phones for a reasonable price. These phones make callers identify themselves before you pick up. If they’re a scammer, you just hit button 3 and their number gets permanently blocked. Hopefully that info helps you sort out those annoying scam calls!

Got a call from this number at about 10.30am on 2/5/19. BT’s 1572 anti-scam service blocked the call straight away, so I couldn’t tell who it was. I’ve seen some say it’s from a firm called Easy Glaze in Norwich. If they call back, I’m definitely reporting them to the Information Commissioner’s Office, as they can hand out big fines to these types of callers. Not sure how they managed to get my number since it’s withheld. The company isn’t listed in the phone directory or on Norfolk’s Trusted Traders list either, so watch out.
