I just found a charge from Vodafone for a call that supposedly happened at 1:40 in the morning, but I wasn’t even on my phone then - it was downstairs on the pager. We have the LifeConnect24 kit here, but it’s linked to our landline, not my mobile. Weird thing is, they rang me first and then billed me 2p per second! Seems like they’re making money by calling me and then charging for it. Proper cheeky if you ask me.

My mum and dad, who are quite old now, have seen this on their phone bill. They charge a normal rate, about 24p for every half minute. Apart from this minor fee (since it’s just the phone line being used) there’s no need to stress. It’s all included as part of their service plan. If you’re on a call package, chances are you won’t even get charged for it.

Cheers to everyone who helped figure this out - my mum, who's a century old, got a call at half past two in the morning, which seemed a bit dodgy to me. this is the lifeline 24 care alarm number. the base unit runs a self-check regularly, usually weekly or monthly, without bothering us, just to confirm everything is working properly. activating the pendant is different and is done separately to check it’s functional. so no, it isn’t a scam - those beeps and noises happen because the device tests itself, even if we call that number directly.

I've noticed three calls logged on my landline to this number that I definitely didn't place. I use a Lifeline emergency button, but when I got in touch with the company, they said they had no record of it. Since the calls are supposed to have come from me, I'm a bit stuck on how to go about blocking it. I've noticed these numbers calling landlines around East Yorkshire and also putting through reverse charge calls. It's really worrying because older folks are getting tricked into handing over little bits of cash. Something should definitely be done to put a stop to this.

I suspect it might be one of those automated calls from Careline. I gather they've recently revamped their software and are now employing a new caller ID for their system checks. It's rather frustrating, as being charged for that when it could happen twice a month feels a bit unfair, doesn’t it?

A number from Norwich has shown up on my EE phone bill three times, yet I’ve never dialled that company. I found someone else online complaining about the same thing. Also, there’s a Middlesbrough number, 01642236995, that’s appeared twice on my EE statement. Then there’s a London number, 02085227617, which has come up more than 30 times on both my EE broadband and landline bills. Others are reporting similar issues with this number too. EE keeps saying I must’ve made these calls, claiming there’s no fault with my phone line. This has been going on since 28/11/17 and it’s really frustrating. The only ‘solution’ EE offers is to block outgoing calls on my landline - which I find completely inadequate. I’m annoyed by their constant suggestion that I’m lying about this. I definitely have not made these calls.
