Got a call earlier today. It was an automated voice telling me my BT internet had been hacked and to press 1 to talk to a technician right away. Since I’m not even a BT customer, I knew straight away it was a scam. With all the tech around nowadays, I don’t get why these calls can’t be tracked down and the scammers caught. Looks like that number has been ringing loads of people.

Just like everyone else, I got a call from a recorded voice saying my Amazon account was charged £300. I’d only just made a purchase from Amazon, so I emailed their support team to make sure, and they said it was definitely a scam.

This number has been calling me repeatedly, and the first time I almost fell for it. I dialled 1471 to check the number, then rang BT pretending to be the caller. I got a voicemail saying they were busy but would ring back, and sure enough, they did. When I spoke to a woman and explained what happened, she denied making the call and told me it was nothing to worry about. After I ended the call, I tried 1471 again and to my astonishment, it was the same number as before. Does this trick keep your line tied up even after hanging up? I'm really annoyed - there needs to be more done to stop these scammers.

Just received an automated call claiming to be from BT, saying my BT IP address was hacked from abroad and to press 1 to speak to someone. The clue for me was that I’m not even a BT customer. Obviously I ended the call straight away, and I’d advise you do the same - don’t engage. A mate of mine fell for it and let them into her PC to sort the “issue” and ended up losing £8000 from her bank account. Bank’s not helping either, so lesson learnt.

Got a dodgy call saying my IP was hacked from outside the UK, from someone pretending to be BT, so I just hung up straight away. Then, not long after, I got another call from 02030978310 pushing me to buy extra insurance for my washing machine. As my 5-year manufacturer's warranty ended last year and I wouldn’t have extra coverage, I told them the original warranty actually covers the motor for 10 years. The line went dead right after that - hope they all get what's coming to them. Do you reckon those two calls are linked?

Got one of those pre-recorded warnings about my IP being hacked - total nonsense. Just before that, I got a call about a washing machine warranty, which I’m pretty sure was fake too. Seems like they use the same lot to verify numbers or something, bloody annoying bunch.

Just got a call that showed up as ‘international’ but from a UK landline. I waited for my answerphone to pick up automatically, but as soon as it started playing, the call dropped off straight away. If China can manage to land a craft on the far side of the moon, why is it so tricky to sort these scam calls out? Maybe Huawei, the big Chinese company known for telecoms gear and tech stuff, which apparently has some secret functions in their devices, might be able to fix this mess.

So I picked up the phone and there was nothing but silence on the other end. The number seemed familiar, I figured it might be a mate from Ludlow since their area code is 01584 which looks similar. I tried ringing back but couldn’t get through, like the number wasn’t real. I looked into it and found out that 01585 is meant to be for Kesgrave in Suffolk, assigned by BT but never actually put into use. That means any call from 01585 numbers is almost definitely a scam!
