I got a rather dodgy automated call declaring that my BT broadband was set to be cut off in just three days. Having been with BT for nearly four decades myself, I decided to humour the situation and pressed '1' to connect with someone who could assist. The chap on the other end seemed to struggle with his English, but he made a sweeping claim that my computer had fallen prey to some hackers purportedly based in Nigeria, insisting he needed remote access to my laptop for a security check. Curious, I inquired about his BT employee ID number, but it seemed to completely baffle him. Next, I quizzed him on the current chairman of BT-blank stare. I even tossed in a question about the difference between BT and Openreach, and he was utterly lost. Frustrated yet amused, I cheekily asked if scamming people was his full-time gig or if he had other aspirations. At that point, he abruptly cut the line. Quite the entertaining encounter!
