I can’t seem to shake off the incessant phone calls that keep coming from this number, it’s quite bothersome!

I received a telephone call from someone purporting to be from EDF Energy, suggesting that they could switch my energy provider for a more favourable rate. She assured me it would result in significant savings each month. After giving it some thought, I turned down the proposal, and I have a strong feeling that was the right move. The woman on the line introduced herself as Charlene.

I’ve had this number ring me several times but I always ignore it ‘cos I don’t know who it is. They never bother to leave a voicemail or anything. I did notice some folks mentioning they’d just switched away from EDF - which is exactly what I did recently, so I’m guessing it’s linked. Anyway, I’ve just blocked the number now.

I’ve gotten calls from this number a couple of times in the last few days. Every time I picked up, there was just silence and then it would suddenly hang up. It almost sounded like the person was in a moving vehicle because there was quite a bit of noise in the back.

No idea who that was. I asked them who it was but they just stayed silent, didn’t reply at all. It really freaked me out since I’m a 60-year-old and quite vulnerable. I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

The caller was a young woman and seemed quite new at this. She never used my name and claimed she was calling from IQ UK doing a government survey about how the Coronavirus was impacting folks. This was the third attempt in just two days, but I missed the previous ones as well. They didn’t leave any voicemail either, which usually sets alarm bells off for me. I checked the number on 1471 and saw it’s linked to Luton, an area I don’t have any connections with. I made it clear to her that if they ring again, I’ll be reporting the number straight away.

I got a call from this number around 4 in the afternoon yesterday but as soon as I answered, the caller hung up. Then they rang again today just before one o'clock and a woman called Myra started the chat with “Good evening,” which felt a bit odd. She claimed to be from IQR doing some sort of market survey. I cut her short, told her I’m on the TPS list, and she said she’d remove me from theirs. I'm thinking of reporting it to the ICO anyway.

On the 25th of March 2020, at around 5:40 in the evening, I got a call from a really nice woman who said her name was Charlene. She asked if it was alright to ask me some questions about the Coronavirus, and I agreed. She told me she was calling from Luton and gave me a contact number: 0800 975 9596. After we finished chatting, I checked the caller’s number by dialling 1471, and it came up as 01582 314561, which is indeed a Luton area code.

Got a call from this number at about 12:45 on 26/03/20. A bloke on the line asked if anyone over 65 lived here, saying he was representing Her Majesty's Government. When I tried to find out who exactly he was or which company he worked for, all he kept saying was that he was calling for Her Majesty's Government. Didn’t sound right to me, so I told him I wasn’t buying it and ended the call.
