The call featured an automated female voice claiming to be from my internet service provider, warning me that my connection would be terminated within the next day due to a security breach originating overseas. The recorded message instructed me to 'press 1' to speak with my provider. Let me stress this: DO NOT PRESS 1 - just hang up immediately! After receiving this call, I reached out to my actual internet provider who confirmed they’re aware of this ongoing scam. Supposedly, if you do press 1, you end up speaking to someone who attempts to extract your banking information to supposedly set up a new internet account.
