Scams pretending to be from Amazon are getting worse! You can see it on the Action Fraud website under news. We should all help keep the vulnerable safe by reporting any dodgy calls or messages. Just search for 'Action Fraud', head over to the police.uk site, find the 'reporting' part and flag it as phishing. You don’t need to sign up or anything.

At 9.44 this morning, I got a call from 01559291894. The person said they were from Amazon Prime and warned me they’d charge £79.99 monthly. They told me to press 1 if I wanted to talk to someone. This morning at just before 9, I got a ring from this number. Since I’m not signed up with Amazon Prime, I immediately thought it was fishy, so I ended the call and let Amazon know about it.

Loads of scammers knocking about. I got a recorded message saying they’d charged me £79.99 for an Amazon Prime renewal and told me to press 1 to chat to an Amazon manager (yeah right). I went ahead and pressed 1 just for the laughs. A guy said, “Hi, this is John from Amazon Prime, how can I help you?” I mentioned the call I just got telling me to press 1. That exact phrase was repeated by him and I had this weird sense of déjà vu. Told him again what I said. Then he spent the next couple of minutes trying to convince me I’d accidentally renewed Prime sometime ago. He kept changing the timeline - first it was ages ago, then last week, then a few days back, down to Sunday or Monday. I told him I hadn’t even logged onto Amazon in months, so it couldn’t be right. He called me thick and hung up. Not much, but it amused me. Bottom line: definite scam.
