Scams pretending to be from Amazon are getting worse! You can see it on the Action Fraud website under news. We should all help keep the vulnerable safe by reporting any dodgy calls or messages. Just search for 'Action Fraud', head over to the police.uk site, find the 'reporting' part and flag it as phishing. You don’t need to sign up or anything.

Ah, yet another one of those pesky fraudsters making the rounds. I recently received an automated voice message claiming they were about to renew my Amazon Prime subscription for a whopping £79.99. It instructed me to press 1 for a chat with an Amazon ‘manager’-as if that were believable! Naturally, I pressed 1 because, let’s face it, I do enjoy a bit of banter with these chaps. A voice on the other end introduced himself as ‘John’ from Amazon Prime, inquiring how he could assist me. I informed him I had just received a call instructing me to press 1. Lo and behold, he repeated, “Hello, I am John at Amazon Prime, how may I help you?” This was becoming oddly familiar, almost like a scene from a ludicrous film. I reiterated my previous statement, and we found ourselves in a rather tedious back-and-forth. He began asking if I wished to renew a Prime membership I'd supposedly activated by mistake long ago. His timeline was amusingly fluid. Starting from ‘some time ago’, he then ventured to ‘last week’, and finally got down to ‘just a couple of days back, perhaps Sunday or Monday’. I couldn’t help but interject that I hadn’t even logged onto Amazon in over two months, and so how could any of this be valid? To my surprise, I was met with a rather rude, “You’re a stupid man!” before he ended the call. Such little delights amidst the chaos. But let’s be clear-this is undoubtedly a scam.
