The individual on the line mentioned that BT supplies broadband services and routers to all media firms, implying that they are responsible for resolving any issues that arise. Given the recent disturbances in my locality, he insisted that BT needed to examine my router because it was allegedly downloading a plethora of spam and other unwanted content while I was online. He claimed he needed to consult with the account holder for permission to carry out this task. It was clearly a ruse, so I ended the call without hesitation.

I received a call on Thursday, the 19th of November at precisely 14:21, from someone claiming to be from BT. He mentioned there was an issue with my router that had been occurring for the past two days, and apparently, they were offering a complimentary service to resolve it. I informed him that my connection seemed perfectly fine and that I would reach out to BT myself if a problem did arise. Nevertheless, the caller pressed on, insisting it was an urgent internal matter that needed immediate attention, warning that my router could potentially end up downloading spam and viruses across all my devices. Curious to see where this would lead, I told him I wasn’t near my router and questioned why he needed that information. His tone shifted dramatically as he became quite aggressive, nearly shouting for me to respond. I then asked for his contact number so I could return the call later, to which he replied that there would be a fee for calling back, although this current conversation was supposedly free of charge. He eventually provided me with the number 07935 969316, but I pointed out that it didn’t match the one displayed on my phone, which was 01556 612904. Not surprisingly, he abruptly hung up. Clearly, a scam.

There's a good chance this number is associated with one of those blocks of UK digits that BT has unfortunately handed over to spammers operating out of Uttar Pradesh.

I received a call from someone who purported to be with BT Openreach, stating they had been alerted by my router regarding some connectivity issues. I promptly hung up and decided to block the number altogether.
