6 yearsSome bloke rang me up saying BT supplies all telecom firms with their internet gear like routers, so if there’s any issue, it’s on BT to fix it. He mentioned there was a fault in my area recently, so they needed to check my router ‘cos apparently it picks up loads of spam when I’m online. He wanted to talk to the account holder for permission to run a scan. Total scam, I just cut him off straight away.BT6 yearsGot a call on Thursday 19th November at around 2:20pm from someone claiming to be BT. He said my router had been experiencing issues for a couple of days and offered a free BT service to fix it. I told him everything was fine on my end and that I’d contact BT myself if there was a real problem. But he kept pushing, saying it was an internal fault and my router could end up downloading viruses and spam onto all my gadgets if not fixed asap. Then he asked if I was near my router and what devices I was using on it - laptop, phone, anything else. I decided to humour him and said I wasn’t close by at the moment and questioned why he needed that info. That made him get quite annoyed, raising his voice and almost shouting for me to answer. When I asked for his number to call back later, he warned that calling back would cost me, even though this call was apparently free. He gave me the number 07935 969316 but I pointed out that the number on my phone’s caller ID was different - 01556 612904. Right after that, he just hung up. Definitely a scam.BT6 yearsI reckon this number probably belongs to a bunch of UK digits that BT sold off to spammers somewhere in Uttar Pradesh.UKBTUttar Pradesh6 yearsSome bloke rang me saying he was with BT Openreach and told me my router was sending alerts about a bad connection. Didn't buy it, so I just hung up and blocked the number straight away.BT OpenreachSubmit Your Own Report (01556 612870)
