Got a call from someone pretending to be HMRC, pretty sure it was a scam. Don’t pick up or ring them back!

I got a message left by some automated system, someone saying they're Officer Claire Williams from HM Revenue. It sounded really threatening, like they were warning me to call back or else face legal trouble. I wouldn't bother returning the call.

This one was definitely a scammer pretending to be from HMRC. Classic phishing attempt.

I got a voicemail saying HMRC is taking me to court. When I rang back, some guy with an Indian accent called himself Jon Parker from the "office" and told me I owed £6,000 to HMRC and asked for my solicitor’s name. I told him I had no clue what he was on about and asked for details. He told me to ring back at 8.30 the next morning when he supposedly had my file. So I phoned again at 8.30 am, but the number 01550 400019 wouldn't connect and my phone flagged it as a scam number. Definitely sounds like one of those dodgy calls to me.

Got a call from some robot with an American accent saying they were from HMRC. They kept going on about some urgent, time sensitive problem and that I needed a lawyer to call them back. Complete scam, don't fall for it.

I got a call from someone pretending to be with HMRC, trying to scam me. They sounded proper official but gave me the creeps. Luckily, I didn't fall for it and hung up straight away. These scammers are getting craftier every day!

I finally spoke to a man with an Indian accent who said his name was Roy Brown and that he was Claire's caseworker. He asked me about my problem, and I mentioned I had four ongoing cases with the tax office. Surprisingly, he then wanted to know how much tax I was due, even though I hadn't said anything about getting a refund. He also asked me to read out my letter, but I just gave a brief summary of one issue instead. He told me Claire would call me back within 4 to 6 hours because she initially phoned my husband's number.

I just got a phone call from someone claiming to be from HMRC telling me to ring 0155 0400019 and ask for Claire Williams. They kept saying it's urgent and if I don't call them back, there will be serious repercussions. Felt really dodgy to me.

Totally agree with what’s been said before. This is definitely a con. If it was really HMRC, they’d be contacting you through the post, not just a random call.

Got a call from 01550 400019, it was one of those automated voice things saying it was really urgent. They told me to ring up an officer Claire Williams at Inland Revenue or else there'd be serious trouble if they don’t get in touch with me or my lawyer. Proper stressy message!

Watch out, these are crooks! HMRC would never hire call centres from Asia to contact people.

Just rang the number back since there were no reviews, and yep, it was a classic scam. The caller had a foreign accent, claimed to be from some tax investigation department. I've had these calls before, they're always after your personal info. Ended the call and blocked the number straight away. Definitely dodgy.
