Got a call from some overseas call centre claiming they can block spam calls. They gave a name and an address but it was wrong. I replied politely that I wasn’t interested since I already have caller ID. I only picked up out of curiosity. They’re still ringing me even now, so I’m just ignoring them from now on.

Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent saying she was calling on behalf of the telephone preference service. She rattled off my address and then asked if I pay by direct debit, also wanting the expiry date on my debit card. I asked why she needed that info, and when she said it wasn’t for details, I declined to give anything. She kept pushing but I stood firm and told her no. Then she just hung up.

had a call from a woman claiming to be from the telephone preference service about stopping nuisance calls. she said she could get rid of all spam calls within a day. then she asked me to confirm the expiry date on my debit card, so i just said 12 for the month. she seemed happy with that info, but that’s totally wrong. i reckon she would have kept asking for more details if i’d given them. i doubt she’d even be able to block her own number with all her so-called magic. worst case scenario, my bank account would’ve taken a hit.

Got a call from a woman with a proper “goodness gracious me” kind of accent. She asked if I deal with loads of nuisance calls, and I told her, “Yeah, just got one right now!” Then she said, “That’s not on,” and hung up straight away. I’ve gone and blocked that number since.

I got a call that clearly came from a call centre overseas. The person said they were calling on behalf of the Telephone Preference Service and even knew my name and where I lived. Then they asked, ‘do you still pay your phone bills through direct debit?’ I said it didn’t have anything to do with me and they just cut the call straight away.
