I received a rather unexpected call this morning. The chap on the other end seemed all too familiar with my name and claimed to be calling on behalf of Amazon Prime regarding an iPhone purchase totalling £769.95. I went along with it, affirming that I had indeed placed the order and thanked him for the heads-up. However, just to throw him off a bit, I quizzed him about my order for three... shall we say, adult toys. To my amusement, he promptly hung up the phone!

After I checked online and saw what others said, I wasn’t convinced. He kept calling again but seemed just like another con artist trying the same thing.

Today, on Saturday afternoon, I received a phone call from someone claiming to be Michael, supposedly representing Microsoft and supposedly about my computer. Naturally, I ended the conversation quite abruptly. Shortly after, he rang me again, expressing his annoyance at my hasty dismissal and commenced to lecture me about the threats to my internet security. I can only imagine that individuals like him are exactly the sort I should be wary of!

I'm really concerned about this fraudulent scheme - they posed as Microsoft, took control of my elderly father's computer, and then attempted to extort him for £5000 to regain access. Unfortunately, he's had no choice but to purchase a new machine.

Got a couple of calls within 10 minutes from a man who sounded like he had a foreign accent, saying he was from Microsoft in Reading. He told me my computer was badly infected with a virus and offered to fix it. I said no, but he insisted it was urgent and claimed Microsoft would shut down my PC if I didn’t follow his advice quickly. I hung up, but he rang straight back five minutes later. After that I just blocked the number. Honestly, this feels like one of those scams, so best steer clear like others have warned.
