3 yearsI got a call from this number with someone pretending to be Microsoft tech support. They told me my computer had serious problems and if I didn’t fix it, they’d block it entirely. They even asked me to note down a “Windows ID” to prove it was Microsoft. The code they gave me was DCA60-FC0A-11CF, which after a quick search I found is actually just a CLSID linked to the zip compression tool built into Windows - it's the same on every PC. Throughout the call, they kept pushing that if I didn’t do something, I’d have to take my PC to their office in Reading. They then told me to check my Event Viewer for some warnings and to open Windows + R and type in "www.anydesk.com". At that point, I stopped them because AnyDesk is remote access software - letting them control your computer remotely. I refused to continue and was passed to some kind of “supervisor” who repeated the threat that they’d block my PC if I didn’t comply. Then they tried to guilt trip me saying, “Since you’re a senior citizen, it’s very important to fix this or your PC will be blocked.” I quickly cut them off and told them I’m actually only 51 and work as an app developer using Microsoft tech every day.MicrosoftReadingAnyDeskSubmit Your Own Report (015396 20360)
