I got a call from a man with an Asian accent who claimed to be from British Gas, giving the name Peter Wilson. He kept pushing that we needed to renew our electricity contract right away, even though it’s not due for another year. When I told him he’d got the facts wrong and that you only need to give a 30-day notice, he started threatening us with disconnecting the supply straight away and said it would cost £1800 to get it switched back on. Then he told us we had to confirm a new deal by 10am, but later changed the deadline to midday.
